It is recommended by health care professionals that people of all ages should have periodic and thorough eye examinations as part of routine primary care, especially since many eye disease may be asymptomatic. A full eye examination at Eyewear Architects includes a series of tests to assess your vision and overall eye health. These tests will often include taking a full case history such as medical and family, vision measurement, evaluation of ocular muscles, ocular health evaluation, assessment of need for prescription lenses and eye pressure testing. Any refractive results will be compared to existing spectacles or previous prescriptions to discuss any changes necessary or unnecessary.
Retinal imaging uses a high-resolution imaging system to take pictures inside your eye. This helps the Optometrist to assess the health of your retina and helps them to detect and manage such eye and health conditions as diabetes, glaucoma, and macular degeneration.
Computerised perimetry testing is also known as visual fields testing. This test may be used to detect any sign of damage to the optic nerve. In addition, perimetry tests are also useful for detecting central or peripheral retinal disease, eyelid conditions such as drooping eyelids, optic nerve disease and disease affecting the visual pathways within the brain.
This is a non-invasive test done one eye at a time and usually takes about 30-45 minutes. While looking into the Optometrists screen, flashes of light appear in different areas within the field of view. Each time you see one of these flashes you press a button. At the end of the test, the result shows where the flashes were not seen. The results report the details of visual fields. This means specific patterns of vision loss can be identified and analysed by the Optometrist.
People with colour vision deficiency find it difficult to identify and distinguish between certain colours. Most people with colour vision deficiency have difficulty distinguishing between shades of red, yellow and green. This is known as red-green colour vision deficiency. It's a common problem that affects more men than women.
It is important to diagnose colour vision deficiency especially in children as it may have an impact on your child’s performance in school or on the sports field thus affecting their confidence. As an adult having a colour vision defect can affect which careers you can pursue and be a frustrating condition to live with at times.
Contact lenses sit on the front layer of the eye, making it very important that the measurements are 100% accurate to ensure a comfortable, healthy fit. This will prevent eye infections and other eye conditions such as corneal abrasion, a painful scratch on the surface of the eye that can make even blinking uncomfortable!
Contact Lens prescriptions differ from the prescription in glasses. They require different information, including the size and shape of the lenses, hence the two prescriptions contain different details.
At Eyewear Architects we believe that most people can successfully be a contact lens wearer. As with most things contact lens technology has advanced and there are new contact lens materials that are healthier for the eye, include UV protection and are better for patients who may experience dry eye.
Our Optometrist can discuss your suitability and the right type of contact lenses for you during your eye examination. .
Dry eye disease is a common condition that occurs when your tears aren't able to provide adequate lubrication for your eyes. The tears on your eye surface may be inadequate and unstable for many reasons. For example, dry eyes may occur if you don't produce enough tears or if you produce poor-quality tears. This tear instability leads to inflammation and damage of the eye's surface.
Some of the common causes of dry eye are:
The Optometrists at Eyewear Architects examine your eyes through a microscope to examine dry eye causes. Dry eye is not uncommon and can successfully be treated with dietary changes or supplements, the use of heat treatment, lubricating eye drops and other prescribed interventions. We have educational pamphlets in practice and the Optometrist will tailor a suitable individually based action plan.
Used in the treatment and correction of short-sightedness, ortho k lenses are worn at night so that good vision is achieved through the daytime. The overnight contact lenses work by gently reshaping the cornea while the wearer sleeps to bring about eyesight correction without the need of glasses or contact lenses during the day.
Orthokeratology is based on a process known as corneal refractive therapy, or CRT, where the lenses are referred to as ‘corneal reshaping contact lenses’. Ortho K is usually used by people who have mild to moderate myopia, but the technique is also being investigated to correct refractive errors on the eye due to hyperopia and astigmatism, as well.
The special Ortho K lenses are rigid, ‘breathable’ gas permeable lenses that allow night wear. They apply a very slight pressure to gently flatten the cornea and achieve the correct optical result for good vision. Once the cornea has been reshaped by the lenses, it reverts slowly to its original shape over the course of the day, or several days.
To maintain optimal vision, ortho k lenses should be worn every night, though they could also be worn alternate or every third night, depending on cornea rigidity and the severity of the condition. The orthokeratology process works well for prescriptions up to 4.00 or 5.00 dioptres of myopia.
Our optometrists Yen is a certified CASA optometrist. Pilots and air traffic controllers require eye testing to be fulfilled by a certified optometrist. Yen is trained with the essential skills to conduct an aviation eye examination.
